Interpreting Body Mass Index

A normal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. A BMI less than 18.5 indicates a low weight for a specific height, while a BMI greater than 24.9 indicates a high weight for a specific height. The safest and healthiest way to lose weight is to slightly decrease calorie consumption and to excercise. A 3500 calorie deficit per week should decrease weight by 1 pound per week. Eating more lean meats and fish as well as eating more vegetables can help with weight loss. Consult a physician before starting a diet and excercise program.
