LG Optimus V for Virgin MobileThe LG Optimus V is a very functional entry level Android smart phone. GPS works extremely well on the phone. The Google Navigation application works well enough on this phone that with a proper car set up, a dedicated GPS device is not needed. To use the phone as a GPS device, buy a car charger and an auxillary audio line. The camera works well in bright light, and panoramic photos can be taken with the Photaf application. Go Launcher Ex can provide a better look for the operating system with features such as 3D menu transitions. Viber provides free data based voice calls and works fairly well in good coverage areas. Skype works well over wifi. Iris is a Siri alternative for Android and answers most direct verbal questions well. Dolphin browser is a significant improvement over the Android default browser. K-9 Mail is a more stable e-mail application. Battery life can be beyond 2 days on this phone, especially with the appropriate modifications. These include installing the Juice Defender application, turning off Wifi, GPS, and setting the display brightness to none. The Virgin Mobile plans are the best deals in pre-paid at this time. $45 gets twenty hours of talk time and unlimited data and text messages. For completely unlimited talk time, the price is $55. The network works well in large cities and most small cities. Virgin Mobile works on Sprint's networks, and is much faster than Boost Mobile's network.
